Greenwood’s Late Strike Seals Man Utd’s Win At Molineux

Mason Greenwood’s late strike earned Manchester United a 1-0 win at the Molineux stadium to punish Wolves for their profligacy in an intense match characterized by David de Gea’s stunning double save.

United, who handed starts to their summer signings (Varane and Sancho), kept on asking questions from Wolves’ defense and eventually got rewarded for their efforts; but the buildup to the goal was not without controversy.

Wolves started the game with real intensity, with Adama Traore becoming unplayable for United’s defense.

However, the presence of Varane in United’s defense counted a lot as the Red Devils was able to repel a series of counter-attacks and corners: but all was balanced before the halftime break as opportunities began to come at the other end of the pitch.

The deadlock got broken in the 80th minute when Paul Pogba appeared to scratch Ruben Neves only for Mike Dean to ignore the appeals of the midfielder and signalled the continuation of play.

Greenwood would take full advantage of the already distracted defense of Bruno Lage’s Wolves, ramming home with his right foot from a narrow-angle becoming just the second teenager to score in his team’s opening three games of a Premier League campaign, after Robbie Fowler for Liverpool in 1994-95.

And while Neves alongside his teammates protested vociferously, displaying the mark from the clash, the goal stood.

Wolves will rue their lethargicness upfront for the larger part of the match as they remain without a point under new boss Bruno Lage.

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side now find themselves third after three matches.
