The Achievers Foundation, a Lagos-based non-governmental organization has donated over 200 sanitary pad to female students of Offa Grammar School (OGS), Offa in Kwara State as part of its initiative to supports and nurtures young talent and help them in their preparation.
The Founder and Coordinator of the organization, Mrs Saliu Mariam today at the programme which took place in Ludlow Hall said the programme is birthed by the dire need to sensitize the girl child on trivial issues peculiar to the gender.
“Using a pad is good during menstrual and the effect of not using may have drastic effect on one’s health. I must say using a pad is not enough, but also should check the expiry date. This will help you to verify its safety,” she said.
Mrs. Saliu went ahead to trace the inception of the organization some five years ago, but said this would be the first official outing.
In addition, she lamented on viral cases of sexual abuses in today’s society.
“Sexual Abuse has many definitions but the one we are more concerned about as young girls at school is unwanted sexual touching, harassment by boys or men around. From the research, it was known to us that, It is how it started to do something you need to fight for it at this stage.”
In his address, The principal of Offa Grammar School, Deaconess (Mrs) Titilayomi Oyeniyi Adeoye appreciated the choice of the for such a benefiting programme.
The Principal who was represented by Mr. Gafar said, “it is our honour our school is chosen for this educative campaign.”
Bello Idris who is one of the volunteers of the Achiever Foundation extends its gratitude to Offa grammar school management for the support given to them to make the programme a successful one.
