Abuja was agog over the weekend when American Gospel lyricist and singer, Bruce Baker was live in Abuja at The Porch Omega Events Arena, Maitama for a meet and greet with Abuja’s A listers, gospel artistes and entertainment pundits.

The warm evening had some of the biggest OAPs and gospel artistes who came in their numbers to celebrate with the American Gospel Rock Artiste while they rendered guests with some of their top tunes from either their album or singles.

Baker, who said though he doesn’t know why God directed him to come to Abuja at this time , believed it’s been a worthy experience especially flashing back to what people have said about the largest black nation in the world.

He frantically said that Nigeria is the opposite of what people told him about while he was in America. He gave examples of what he saw on television, and his experiences in the classrooms. He simply puts it that , everything changed when he came into the country, adding that Nigeria is rich, it’s black owned, black power and that’s what everyone need to see more in America.

Speaking further on his music and his reason for coming to Abuja, he said in the past 3 years, he has released over 15 tracks but were tracks that were sold because he’s a professional lyricist.

Speaking further on his music and his reason for coming to Abuja, he said in the past 3 years, he has released over 15 tracks but were tracks that were sold because he’s a professional lyricist.

“This is my first single released as a non lyricist. When the holy spirit told me to write music for myself this time; instead of creating sounds for people to purchase, I said God it’s a privilege because I’m so used to writing songs for other artistes. I said now it’s my turn and time, I’m going to create music in the universal and my voice is going to be heard.”

He’s also ready to drop a banger single in few months featuring famous Nigerian Gospel artiste , Samsong aka Church Boy, and subsequently, an album.

“My dreadlocks are sentimental. My 16years of growing this locks is equivalent to my 16years of serving Jesus Christ. When I started my locks, I started it the first day I gave my life to Lord. Actually this is 4th sets of dreadlocks, but this is the longest I have ever kept one.”

When asked about the songs he rendered on the night, he explained that the concert and songs were taken from his past and also his future.

“We are here to celebrate music, to celebrate something that’s very important to me. This was a dream innovation I brought to my manager. I said this is where the holy spirit is leading me, not to Lagos, not anywhere in Africa except Abuja. Why this place, I don’t know yet but God had shown me the right path; everything he has put in my hands to do is unfolding, its a celebration and awakening of the birthing of music done in Abuja.

The drive is my past, my pedigree, been addicted to drug, suicidal, having a mum and a dad with a terminal illness, all of that fussed , gave me the energy through the holy spirit to approach the canvas of pen and paper and to tell a story, so when people listen to my music, they not only can relate but can revive light, inspiration, hope and that’s my main focus point when it comes to making music,” he concluded.
