Two Bandits Shot Dead In Ogun, 2 AK-47 Rifles Recovered




Two AK-47 rifles have been recovered after two bandits were killed during a gun battle with police inside a forest in Ogun state.


According to the Ogun State Police Command operatives, the incident happened over the weekend at Bere Forest in Onigaari, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.


The command’s spokesperson Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in a statement made available to reporters, stated that the operatives acted on a tip-off received by the command from members of the public.


He stated that it received information that the AK 47-bearing hoodlums numbering about six were sighted in the forest.

“Upon the information, the Commissioner of Police Edward Awolowo Ajogun deployed the command’s tactical teams, coordinated by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Owode Egba Division Olusola Oniyiku, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to the forest in search of the hoodlums.

“The hoodlums, on sighting the policemen, opened fire on them, and a gun battle ensued among them.

“At the end of the encounter, one of the bandits was shot dead while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

“Searching the forest further, one of the bandits with bullets wound was arrested but he later died.


“Two AK-47 riffles with breech numbers 1983NF1040 and 1987-3-CA-1212 with five rounds of ammunition were recovered from them.

“Also recovered from them are sachets of tramadol and assorted charms,” the statement said.


The Commissioner of Police Edward Ajogun has ordered for a manhunt for the remaining members of the gang.

He also appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals, not to hesitate to inform the police if anyone with gunshot injuries is seen in their area.
